The Champion Project

The Champion Project is a nonprofit in West Seneca, New York that works to give all kids access to low cost, high quality sports programming. They strive to eliminate barriers to participation and help kids build character through sport. The Champion Project also has a wonderful “Collegiate Coaches Model” that they leverage to staff their camps and clinics with local college athletes. The result? Relationships deepen between participating schools and the community and college athletes receive training as coaches. In turn, the college athletes provide valuable mentoring and skill-based learning to young children.

When Executive Director Kate Braun first told me about The Champion Project and their work, I knew I had to be even a small part of telling everyone about them. Working with Kate to help launch her vision was such a pleasure. I was proud to give them the web presence they deserve!

A web presence of their own

The Champion Project is part of the Niagara Frontier Volleyball organization. When Kate came to me, their existing website was a single page on the NFVB’s website crowded with information about the organization, registration information for upcoming camps and clinics and information and downloadable files featuring success stories enabled by donors. And that wasn’t all.

The organization needed a web presence of its own; one that would provide easy-to-find information and clear calls to action for donors and parents alike. They already had a library of wonderful photos of kids enjoying team volleyball, along with sharp new branding elements like a logo and color and font palettes.

I knew Squarespace was the perfect home for their new website. Kate has some experience with website maintenance, and Squarespace is so easy to use that I knew she’d pick it up in no time. I wanted her to be able to confidently add pages, images, text, and buttons to her website. At Kate’s request, I kept things simple and the pages as short as possible, but still managed to have some fun with a bit of custom code, a nifty background animation to show off their vision and mission statements, and gorgeous CSS overlays to make photos pop.

The result? A modern, mobile-responsive website that’s not only 100% on-brand but that beautifully showcases their important work. Check it out!
