Katrina Fulcher-Rood

Dr. Katrina Fulcher-Rood is an experienced speech language pathologist and the talent behind The Big Picture SLP, which supports speech-language pathologists with science-based, customizable continuing education opportunities. The Big Picture SLP is an online, interactive, professional development marketplace where clinicians and researchers learn together.

When Katrina came to me, it was as she was preparing to pivot away from academia and into entrepreneurship. Katrina had big plans for her business—to launch The Big Picture SLP as a two-pronged business that offered continuing education and enabled her to work in private clinical practice. I frikkin’ love helping women bet on themselves!

As we talked, it became clear that Katrina would need help to make the pivot a success and do justice to her expertise. Katrina worked with Jordana Halpern to help her frame her thoughts, streamline content, and write brand-aligned, easy-to-digest copy for each page of her website.

What a pleasure it was to give Katrina the web presence she deserves!

Kind words

Working with Kristen was a wonderful experience. She is professional, relatable, and easy to work with. She really gets to know you and your needs and listens to your feedback. She is sincere and really wants to help your small business succeed. As a new business owner, she helped me with my website and provided me with practical advice to manage a small business. She has amazing connections to help you with more aspects of your small business beyond your website.

Kristen is incredible! I only have a website because of her, and I only feel confident maintaining that website because of her, too! Thank you, Kristen, for helping us women entrepreneurs find our voice and space.

The web design process

Before she reached out to me, Katrina had worked with a graphic designer and photographer. She was ready to go with a gorgeous brand that included a logo, a mark, a color palette, and a font palette. She also had a ton of professional photos that included headshots and lifestyle shots showing her in action. Combined with Jordana’s expertly written copy, Katrina’s website was ready to go into design right from the get-go.

I built Katrina’s new website in Squarespace—I’m head-over-heels in love with the no-code, drag-and-drop builder that makes it easy for my clients to update their websites on their own.

Katrina’s site is bold and colorful, just like she is. It’s got a minimalist, three-color palette, and I made extensive use of her brand turquoise and Squarespace’s awesome section dividers to inject some personality and fun into the site. There are drop shadows for depth, colorful text highlights for emphasis, and a quirky background for her testimonials carousel. The site also includes mass email capabilities so Katrina can easily reach out to her students and subscribers.

Squarespace is where it’s at, y’all. It’s easy to use: Katrina’s already been able to make updates and announce some upcoming service offerings like small group classes. And it’s got the elasticity to enable people to grow their businesses. Katrina’s thinking about using Squarespace’s new Digital Products and Courses offerings to provide on-demand classes and lectures to her students. Sweet.
