WNY Postpartum Connection

WNY Postpartum Connection is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that provides a free directory of local mental health and support services for those who are pregnant or postpartum. They also connect providers and businesses, provide education, promote access to care, and collaborate with providers and community agencies.

WNY Postpartum Connection was founded by three local social workers: Jennifer Urban LCSW-R, PMH-C; Julie Rosinski LCSW-R, PMH-C; and Lori Badach LCSW-R, PMH-C. They believe that postpartum mental health concerns are very common and very treatable and no parent should suffer in silence simply because of a lack of resources.

I love it.

When Jen, Julie, and Lori came to me, it was because their website had, over time, become bloated. As a result, it was difficult to manage—and even more difficult for visitors to find the help and information they needed.

What a pleasure it was to give Jen, Julie, and Lori the web presence they deserve!

The original website

Their original website had been created on Wix several years ago. And because it was older, the design had an outdated “boxes within boxes” feel. Over time, their website had become bloated with extraneous pages. So many pages were nested that visitors had to click four, five, and six times to drill down into the information they needed. To make matters worse, there was a lot of text and no clear calls-to-action.

To give you an idea of where we started, here’s a look at their original Family Resources page:

The web design process

Their needs were simple: A website that would make it easy for people in need of help or support to find the information they need. It was also important to me that Jen, Julie, and Lori could stay focused on helping people and not have to worry about maintaining a complicated website.

First things first, though: We needed to take a hard look at their existing website. Our goals were these: To consolidate and simplify information, eliminate extraneous pages, and create clear pathways through the site so that visitors could easily connect to the help and support they needed. By the time it was all said and done, we had trimmed more than 80 pages down to just 10. Glorious!

While we were working on that, I suggested that the team consider using Community Box to create easy-to-use provider and support directories. Previously, that information made up the bulk of those 80+ pages on their existing website. Moving to Community Box helped us solve that problem! It also made it possible for visitors to find information in just two clicks. Oh—and it also eliminated the time that Jen, Julie, and Lori were spending on updating profiles. Thanks to Community Box, providers can maintain their own directory profile. Love it!

Last but not least, I was able to create a new donation widget. Now, instead of clicking through to PayPal, visitors can make a donation without ever leaving the WNYPPC website. The team also has much more control over the donation experience—they can suggest amounts, designate funds, and even send a branded notification email to every donor without lifting a finger.

I couldn’t wait to bring it all together! Squarespace is my platform of choice, and I knew that the team would easily be able to take over and maintain the site on their own. I mean, drag-and-drop, no-code builder that works just like PowerPoint? Sweet.

Take a look at their new website!
