Janice Marie Hunt

Janice Marie Hunt is the talent behind Birthed Out of 84, a brand she launched in memory of her mother and to honor the home in Buffalo’s Genesee and East Ferry neighborhood where she and her sisters grew up.

Janice is an incredible woman of many talents. Not only is she an author, she’s also an award-winning Toastmaster International trained motivational speaker and facilitator. And as if all that weren’t enough, she’s also created a line of inspiring merchandise that sells like hotcakes every time she holds a pop-up event.

Like so many of my clients, Janice started the process with only a few pieces of the puzzle in hand.

She had created her own logo, but she didn’t have a formal brand. She knew what she wanted to say, but had no idea how to get it on paper in a format that would work for a website. She didn’t know what photos she’d need or how, exactly, it would all work out.

What did she have? Me! I was in her corner from the get-go. And her project is a great example of how anyone can have a gorgeous website—even if all they have is a vision.

I love working with amazing women to help them bet on themselves. What a pleasure it was to give Janice the website she deserves!

Kind words

“Kristen Johnson was recommended to me by the Small Business Development Center, and WOW my website is FIRE. I was a blank canvas with no concept of what I wanted or needed, and that's when SUPERWOMAN came to my rescue. I provided her little to work with and she produced much! When I finally got my thoughts together, she took the reins and created my website that totally wowed and shocked me.  As a result of her phenomenal work, I've already been approached for speaking engagements and orders for my merch. WOO! HOO! If you want results, Kristen is the one that produces it. THANK YOU KRISTEN!”

The web design process

First things first: I connected Janice with my girl Jordana Halpern to prepare the wording for each page of her website.

While that process was unfolding, Janice worked on gathering some photos that I could use on her website. I encouraged her to think about the “look and feel” that she’d like for her website. There were some big questions to consider, like: How does she like to make people feel? What matters most to her? What colors make her feel most like herself?

We hemmed and hawed.

And then, in a flash, it all came together.

It turns out that Janice loves circles. They’re in various decor pieces throughout her home. They’re in her wardrobe. They’re in the logo she created. They’re in a bokeh-style stock photo that she absolutely loved. To her, circles symbolize themes of the self, wholeness, timelessness, the infinite, eternity, all cyclical movement, and God.

That was all I needed.

I used the cover of Janice’s book as inspiration for her font and color palette. I found additional iterations of the stock photo that she loved. Together with the logo that she had created and wording from Jordana, we suddenly had the building blocks of a website.

Janice’s new website is as warm as she is. The bold color palette perfectly suits her energy and confidence. There are lots of rounded corners and curved section dividers that speak to her love of circles but also make visitors feel welcomed. You won’t find sharp edges here! Janice’s website also includes a sprinkling of CSS code that adds drop shadows, button hover effects, and a few other bells-and-whistles.

Take a look at her new website home page!
